A celebration of life service for former Deputy Michael Hendricks will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept.

16 at Faith Church in Summerville — family members are invited an hour early. Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to Serve & Connect’s first responder support program.

Community members and first responders gathered at Ashley River Park to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, offering a space for remembrance & reflection on the lives impacted by the tragedy.

SC native and former Navy pilot Frank Culbertson Jr. recounted commanding the International Space Station when he learned of the 9/11 attacks, saying his view of smoke and damage impressed him with the value of international cooperation.

A Holly Hill high school graduate, he continues to inspire local pride.
